Puerto Rico Urbania

I just got back from the best trip of my life!! I went to Puerto Rico for this demo for Snickers called The Snickers Urbania. It’s this festival they put on with skating, moto-X, graffiti, break dancing , and of course mountain bikes. I went last year, so I was stoked to go back cause it is pretty much a vacation. I went with Andrew Taylor, Tyler McCaul, Phil Sundbaum, Robbie Wright, And Aaron Lutze filming for Freecaster web videos as well as the next Summer of Shred video.
We got there on a tuesday night but it was still insanely hot and humid. After checking out the jumps and recovering from jet lag, we hit the beach for a couple of days. The weather was perfect and the water was so warm that we didn’t want to leave. One day we checked out these epic Indian caves that connected to the ocean. It was filled with bats, crabs, bees, skinny walkways, water… the whole nine yards! It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen!!
After checking out the sights, and relaxing on the beach, it was time to ride. We met up with our friend Pedro Morrero and hit up a local dirt jump spot to warm up a bit. After riding for a while we got some good video shots, and then headed over to the demo site to get used to the jumps. The set up was a 5 foot drop into 2 straight dirt jumps. They were pretty simple, but really easy to throw any trick you want on. It was really cool because we were riding right next to the metal mulisha demo practicing at the same time. After dialing in the jumps the day before the demo, we headed to bed.
The Day of the demo was again really hot and humid, so we could only ride for a half hour at a time before getting dizzy. The first demo went was awesome because everyone was riding really well, and the crowd was pumped! Andrew Taylor was pulling flip supermans as well as a bunch of other cool lines. Phil and Tyler killed it with Phil tailwhipping the drop, and Tyler doing a tailwhip to switch whip perfectly. Robbie tried a 720 and almost pulled it but went down pretty hard. I did a truck driver off the drop as well as put together a line which earned me first place! The line was a 360 off the drop to a double truck on the first jump, and ending it with a flip whip.

After the first demo we watched the moto guys ride for a bit, but it started raining, and it was too slick to ride for the rest of the day. It wasn’t a total loss though cause it was the most fun I’ve had all year! Usually after a week of being gone, I am looking forward to going home, but this time, I didn’t want to leave! but all good things must come to an end I guess, so we boarded the plane back to cali, and headed back to reality.

Until next time, this is Greg Watts signing out!
