Girl Posse Sesh Wrapped!

posse_sesh.jpg

It was a great start to the night, the Cove guys loaded up the vehicles with a fleet of Kona demo bikes for the all girls ride on Mount Seymour. With the support of NSMB, Pinkbike and Muddbunnies we were able to spread the good word on the World Wide Web. We managed to bring 57 AWESOME ladies from Vancouver together for the ride!!! It was a great turnout of personalities and comedians.

We broke up into 3 different groups with 2 XC rides for a Bridal Path mission and 1 group on DH shuttle for a CBC hot lap. All and all the girls had a great time riding with new friends.

From one social atmosphere to the next, the ladies proceed back to the Cove Bike Shop for a glass of Barefoot Wine to toast a good session. The ladies socialized about their day and life over the divine spread of fruit and cheese platters that cleansed the pallet.

Please be sure to check the GALLERY for the shots of the evening. Photos complimentary of Yorick Carroux.

Special thanks to all those that came out for the night, BAREFOOT WINE, COVE BIKE SHOP staff, GENTLE FAWN, YORICK CARROUX, NSMB & PINKBIKE.

Watts Colorado Crankworx Update

Hey everyone. This is Greg Watts giving you an update on crankworx Colorado. This was my first time attending crankworx Colorado, But having seen the videos from the previous year, It was promised to be an awesome slopestyle. The contest took place at winter park resort, Colorado, Which is at over 9000 feet of elevation! Riding the course was brutal not just because of the features on the course, but because the air is so thin, you were wiped out after a couple runs. The course was great though. John cowan and his building team built a fun course for all riding types. After a full day of practice, there was qualifying. I had no problem qualifying with just a safety run, but there were a ton of huckers trying to get into the finals. Because crankworx  Colorado is a qualifier for the real one in whistler, the lesser known riders really tried and some of them made it. A lot of them crashed out though, But it was still entertaining to watch. The next day was the best trick comp. Best trick Has been my specialty for a long time because I get bored with traditional tricks and I want to expand on them. It was a 45 minute jam session and whoever threw the sickest trick won $2000! I was the first one to drop in just to make sure I got as many chances as I can. The competition was close, But I ended up winning with a flip double barspin! The next day was the finals. Everything was going great. The first few riders dropped in and did their runs, and as I was about to roll in, They called a hold on the course! Thunder and lightning along with rain moved in on the course and delayed my run for over an hour. I was a little bummed by it, but it didn’t really affect my run. I landed my solid run after the rain and ended up 8th. I was happy with my performance because the competition was fierce, and I wanted to save my best riding for the real Crankworx. Hopefully ill bring back more good news from Whistler!! See ya.

World cup –Bromont

Week after Mont Saint Anne we moved to Bromont, 3 hours far from MSA, for another UCI World cup. It was first time for me to racing in Bromont so I was looking forward to this race. After raining weekend in Mont Saint Anne it looked like that the weather should be good. Unfortunately as the trainings and race were coming the weather was getting worse and it was wet and muddy again.

Luckily the 4X course was made from good dirt so it wasn´t too bad for riding. Track was over 1 minute long full of all different kind of obstacles like rock sections, logs, big doubles, flat corners and much more. It wasn´t really fluid and it was physically demanding a lot. But for racing it was so good track with possibility for passing in almost every corner.

Race started really bad for me as I got a flat rear tire in the first part of the track during qualification. I lost lot of time and finished 32nd in qualification. I got through the first run but in second run I made a mistake and finished 3rd, didn´t get through and finished on the 12th place overall in Bromont.

Another mud mission……

Although the Bromont World Cup track was a lot shorter than the MSA track, it was still a tough one. The weather played a big role in that as it didn’t seem to want to stop monsooning. There were a few crazy thunderstorms, one that delayed practice for a bit the first day.

As soon as I walked the track, I knew there was a chance I could do well. There were a lot of big jumps on the track and some really technical sections made extra slippery with mud. I knew if I practiced smart, prepared my bike well and stayed strong, I could post another good result. I finished 6th again and I am very happy with that.

My goal for the season was to get into the top ten and for the first 3 World Cups, I came 11th!!! Three times!!! I was just shy of my goal. Now I have proved that I can do it and that it isn’t just a fluke!

So now I am back in Whistler coaching adult week for the Summer Gravity Camps. The weather is good and our friends from the circuit are arriving in town for Crankworx so it’s going to be good fun. It’s Neethlings birthday tonight so I’m sure there will be some sort of debauchery going on in the village…..

Later.

Claire.
